Review of “How to Get Anything You Want – Just Like That!”

There are so many self help books out on the market, many of which reiterate the same information. While some of us may need to read the same stuff over and over again, I have to admit that it is incredibly refreshing to get my hands on a book that I truly feel might be the only self help book that anyone could ever possibly need. As you might guess, I am referring to “How to Get Anything You Want – Just Like That!”

I found “Just Like That!” to be intelligently written in a way that is easy to understand. At the beginning of the book, the author helps you to discover who you really are and then discusses the importance of loving yourself. Next she breaks the book down into six sections. Each section is organized into chapters that cover specific topics. At the end of each chapter are a summary of the main points and exercises to help guide you through the area being discussed.

“Just Like That!” is written in an empowering and motivating way. Instead of feeling tired after reading some incredibly thought-provoking material, I felt inspired to get started with working towards making my life even more extraordinary.

One of the areas where I found the most inspiration was with how the author handled potentially negative subjects about certain behaviors, such as people who feel a need to surround themselves with an excessive amount of materialistic items. Instead of teaching about this with a negative voice, the author writes in a manner that is informative, yet non-judgmental to help explain why people, including ourselves might engage in this behavior.

“Just Like That!” covers so many topics that it would be too numerous to mention all of my “Ah ha” moments. But I can say that there were many that helped me to better understand my behaviors and thought patterns, and those of others. In looking at how and why other people might act like they do, it helped me to feel more compassion towards them. I also learned a lot about not getting sucked in to other people’s issues or letting them control me with their negativity or letting myself get sucked into helping them when it might not be in my best interest or theirs.

The main points and exercises at the end of the chapter provide perfect tools for journaling these lessons. I highly recommend “Just Like That!” for both individuals and self-help groups.”

Review of “How to Get Anything You Want – Just Like That!”

Janet Poole’s book took me on a journey I wasn’t expecting. It was a journey that enabled me to discover parts of myself I didn’t know existed. Her book gave me the courage to make a decision that has plagued me since 1985. And that is do I or don’t I take the plunge and publish my own children’s writing. Following her guidance in chapter five about challenges and the powerful opportunities they open up for you, I feel confident that I can achieve my goal of publishing my own work. The most important point that the author makes is that loving yourself is essential, if you want to help yourself and others. Until you can love yourself for whom you are, then your mind and body are consumed by negative thoughts. By loving yourself you open your mind to new ways of looking at life in a positive light. This love of oneself in turn flows outwardly to embrace those around you with love and to help them in a positive way.

What Janet Poole has articulated in fine detail is that by not letting go of demons that tell us that self love is degrading and selfish, keeps the body in a sluggish state. One that gives our body a false sense of security, where it uses negative thoughts as a security blanket. It’s like telling oneself, “If I sit here and don’t move nothing can harm me.” But if a person allows themselves to stay in an immobile mental state, they will never expand their knowledge of life. To expand knowledge you first must expand knowledge of yourself.

The summaries and exercises that are included at the end of each chapter I found to be an excellent idea. They reinforced the sometimes difficult ideas that the author was attempting to get across. I found the book was set out quite well and it made it easier to progress down the self discovery path. Doing what you love is not selfish; it is the key to becoming all knowing in the quest for knowledge of oneself and all things in the universe.

Another point the author makes quite well is that you alone are responsible for your life, and you cannot blame someone else for your life. Self-pity feels good momentarily, but it means that we are avoiding responsibility, and it shuts down our power. In today’s world we should always avoid the herd mentality; you should always choose what is good for you.

Readers who approach this book with an open mind will discover a wealth of information that enables them to see themselves in a new light. They shall see that they themselves have control over how life treats them. The real person who resides inside all of us can pave the way to true enlightenment and self fulfillment, no matter what our goals may be. This, as the book so richly describes is not selfish, it leads the way to helping others.

Janet Poole’s book is not one that can be read once and put away. It is a reference for life that each additional reading will enhance the understanding of oneself and the world one exists in. Those readers willing to take on new ways of thinking will find this book, as I did a revelation as to what makes us human.

I found this book to be one of the best I have read on the topic of self discovery, and highly recommend it to those seeking out new knowledge.”

Review of “How to Get Anything You Want – Just Like That!”

Janet Poole believes that every human being is precious and worthy of having anything he or she wants. Everything we have in our lives is a product of our thoughts. We usually get what we’re thinking.  If we think positively, we attract positive things. However, if we think about negative things — and sadly, many of us fit into this category — we attract negative things.

Many people are confused and discontent about their lives. They feel they are without purpose, and not getting what they want. They don’t feel they are worthy of getting what they want. As detailed in How to Get Anything You Want – Just Like That!, Janet Poole believes that we each have it in our power to shift to a higher gear by learning simple ways to change our thoughts from negative ones to positive ones. All we have to do is to change our intentions from negative thoughts to positive ones.

It sounds easy, but the process isn’t. This is because we live in terms of a whole set of limiting beliefs. These have become so habitual that we live according to them without thinking. Poole’s book will help readers become aware of their limiting beliefs and thought patterns and change them.

I found Poole’s book to be very empowering. We need to develop an inquiring mind that gets beyond our old, habitual patterns to new ones. Then by following Poole’s exercises and affirmations, we can have anything we want. All we have to do is to believe that we can!

How to Get Anything You Want – Just Like That! is a gem of a book. It will be enjoyed by psychologists and lay people alike. Each page is encouraging and enriching. So grab a cup of latte, and plan to be empowered and transformed like never before.”

Review of “How to Get Anything You Want – Just Like That!”

This self-published website-supported book treads a familiar self-help path covering off on the topics of learning to love one’s self, forgiveness, positive affirmations and the like. While the subject matter doesn’t tend to change in these kinds of books, the structure and approach in imparting the information can vary greatly.

“Just Like That!” is lucidly written with a warm matter-of-fact tone which makes it approachable and easy to read. One of the attractive features is how Poole breaks up the text with salutary quotes to lighten up the subject matter and create a lighter level of interest. Poole also uses case studies in comic sans-like font to illustrate her points and these also act as a time-out from the straight telling and instructing.

At the end of each chapter are summarised learning points and exercises to apply and grow the knowledge. A less usual feature of self-help books such as this is Poole’s application of quantum physics to explain and support some of the concepts she discusses. She even draws on scientific experiments that appear to support more intuitive conclusions. While some readers may find these examples a stretch too far, it does illustrate Poole’s ability to provide a fresh angle on familiar material.

I found the first few chapters a little repetitive, but I reminded myself that repetition and reinforcement are tried and tested teaching methods, and the author has certainly done her homework on this front. Just reading the book and immersing myself in Poole’s positive thinking methods made me feel lighter and more positive myself; which means I’ll certainly be dipping back into it in the future.

Review of “How to Get Anything You Want – Just Like That!”

The power of positive thinking, changing attitudes, embracing your inner strength, seizing control over your life, not letting others dictate your productivity or happiness; these and many more are the themes of “How to Get Anything You Want”. Poole builds on concepts designed to help the reader recognize those situations and inner barriers that hinder a person from progressing, or better said, from achieving their desires and goals. The book provides insight into what may be issues in your life, both personal and professional, provides direction in overcoming these issues and even exercises to help the reader through the concepts or through self-analysis and reflection. The book gives inspirational quotes, decent summaries of the chapters, good sense advice and a variety of approaches for each idea. It is all inclusive and wide ranging and will have a wide target audience.

While the book is well written, very well laid out and easy to read, I found the concepts a repeat of many self-analysis and self-help books already on the shelf. The title, “How to Get Anything You Want – Just Like That!” is also misleading and actually contrary to some of the concepts presented. This book provides a path to attitude, emotional or situational change which in its self might lead to personal growth, emotional stability, or even financial gain through realizing and overcoming your individual limitations, but it can give the reader nothing “Just Like That!”

On the positive side, I believe there is great wisdom inside and everyone will walk away with lessons or skills, whether new or reinforced, that can improve their situation. To those who pick up this book I say, “Embrace the message”.

Review of “How to Get Anything You Want – Just Like That!”

As I have stated in previous posts, I love to read.  It was a perfect opportunity when I was hired at a local bookstore. My favorite part of the job was getting customers excited about the latest book I read. I loved working there, but life changes, and we move on. I was so excited when presented with an opportunity to review a book for my readers.  I was asked to read Of course, upon finding out the name of the book I was intrigued!

I had my suspicions about the book, at first. “Is this going to be a get rich quick type of book?” Well, if you are having those reservations, I can put your mind at ease. This is not that type of book.Janet Poole believes that everyone is truly amazing; we just have to reach inside ourselves and bring it to the surface.  Basically, the key to getting everything you want is to be happy, and believe that you deserve it. It is disheartening to know how many people do not believe they deserve to be happy.

Janet Poole walks us through the steps to becoming a fabulous being that is happy, and really does have the life we want and deserve. One of her key points is finding out what this life really is. We have to reach into ourselves and decide what we want, not what society thinks we should want. This is a major issue for many people. I realize now that the life I thought I wanted is not the one I have envisioned.  Oddly enough, I am closer than I thought to the life that I actually want. We all need work, but the author will help you realize the true steps of getting there.

An interesting aspect of this book is that Janet Poole touches on Quantum Physics, and how it relates to our unique beings. I am not good at science, and never have been. However, I can understand the way she explains it. I also enjoyed the motivational quotes scattered throughout the book, they are nice pick me ups. I will be putting them on post-it notes and scattering them throughout my house.

Here is one activity she shares in the book. “Try this: look in a mirror and say, ‘I am precious, special, and amazing.’ Notice if this is a challenge for you. Never mind how strange this seems- you may need to pretend you mean it at first, but say it with conviction.” (Page 19)

The most important thing she teaches us to do is to look in the mirror and see this fabulous person looking back at us. We are beautiful, we are amazing, we are smart, and most of all, and we deserve the world!

My challenge to you is to use her process not only to realize just how amazing you are, but also to take your brand to the next level. Realize that your brand deserves everything, that it is amazing, and it is uniquely you!

I will not spoil any more of the book for you, but you must read it. You will not regret it. Janet Poole will help you to realize that you truly are fabulous.

Review of “How to Get Anything You Want – Just Like That!”

I have read my fair share of self-help books.  Most of them leave me feeling unsatisfied because they don’t really teach me anything.  That was not the case with “Just Like That!”  It is full of insightful information that will make you re-think what you have learned from this genre in the past.  With unique hints that seem to be tailored to your individual style, Just Like That! can help you barrel through the obstacles and reach your true potential.  Janet’s distinct writing and powerful voice make for an educational and inspiring read.

Review of “How to Get Anything You Want – Just Like That!”

A book about discovering yourself, understanding yourself and getting over yourself. Traveling through you inner being, understanding your truest potential, and eventually finding out and achieving your goals, dreams, wants and desires, without allowing anything to hinder your progress. I suppose that I avoided reviewing this book because I had some sort of disbelief as to what it could potentially deliver to me or deliver me to. I should say that I’ve heightened my awareness, my understanding and essentially my goals for myself. I’ve learned a little more about who I am and what makes me tick, my apprehension to put my best foot forward and progress, succeed and achieve is no longer there, I want to go out and grab my goals.

Some important things to know or consider about this book!

You’re not just given the book without a clear understanding of how the book is supposed to work, it begins by opening your mind to what you are about to read, it prepares you for what you are about to endure, and gets you into the mind frame that you are who you are, and understanding and accepting who you are is all part of the process to getting what you want, Just Like That!

Now I know that we all tend to be a little apprehensive as it pertains to self-help, we are all stuck in this thinking that this is what and who I am supposed to be, we’ve adapted and accepted our lives, but consider achieving more by the mere acceptation of who you really are in life. I loved that this book takes your way of thinking and offers another look, another view, another way, I had to allow myself to not be so closed minded in order to be able to accept what this book was offering me.

It is not my intention to sit here and go through the book, tell you all the nitty gritty, bore you with MY insights, but what I will tell you is that if you achieve nothing else from the book other than pondering thoughts of other possibilities, knowing a bit more about yourself and what makes you tick, then you’ve made an achievement and step in a positive direction. I will tell you that the hardest part of the book for me was Section 2, You Are Responsible for Your Life: The statement alone speaks mountains, but it really allowed me to explore myself and really accept and acknowledge some things that I hadn’t previously considered or had enough courage to accept!”

Review of “How to Get Anything You Want – Just Like That!”

I’ll have to admit, I’m not a big fan of self help books.  I’ve read quite a few and unfortunately, gleaned very little information from them that truly helped me.  Believe it or not, I’ve now found one that I really enjoyed AND is very helpful at the same time.

We have all probably heard the phrase, “You have to love yourself before anyone else can love you” – and usually I would say in return, “blah, blah, blah”.  Not so with this book. The author does a fantastic job of helping you discover who you really are and what your weaknesses are. By discovering these things about yourself, you really can start to understand more about your motivations and how what you project, has everything to do with how you are perceived by others.  Surrounding yourself with extraordinary people, thoughts and actions, will lead to a more fulfilling and well, extraordinary life!

I think we would all like to live an extraordinary life, but what if you can help others lead one as well? The author shows us how changing your own life and turning positives into negatives, can provide you with the tools to help your loved ones attain the same kind of life.   Do you have one or more people in your life that literally “suck the life out of you”? Those that are in constant need of attention; are always negative or are what I call “braggers” and always have the best of everything? After reading this book you will have a better understanding of what motivates these people and how to handle yourself when these negatives start to drag you down.

I found “Just Like That!” very inspirational and although sometimes the authors very candid demeanor can seem a bit harsh, I believe we have come to the point in our society that sometimes we have to be a bit hard to open others eyes to what is going on around them.

If you want to learn how to make effortless changes in your life learn how to have control of what happens in your life, I think you will enjoy this book very much.”

Review of “How to Get Anything You Want – Just Like That!”

I have seen a lot of self-help books out there. But generally, they usually say the same thing with different wording. This book is something else entirely. “Just Like That!” is well written and paints a vivid picture for the reader, transporting them to a place of self awareness. The author does a good job reaching out to a wide audience. It begins with Poole introducing why she wrote the book, followed by a breakdown of exactly how it is laid out. At the end of each chapter, there is a summary of the key points as well as exercises to help the reader apply the information to his/her life. Poole even offers other suggested reading, if you want to dig deeper into the principles she addresses.

“Just Like That!”, is an easy to follow, work at your own pace guide to living a better life. I personally enjoyed all the inspirational quotes throughout the text. The changes are easy enough to make if you are willing to actively put in the effort.  I really like that Poole suggests instead of changing yourself to fit with the status quo of the world, love yourself, and the rest will all start to fall into place! This book is a great stepping stone for people who are sick and tired of being sick and tired. This book is great for singles, married couples, men, women, etc. There is something for everyone to take to heart from this book.”

“The biggest blessing you can give someone is to accept them for who they are. Start by accepting yourself, and go with what resonates for you.”  – Janet Poole

Review of “How to Get Anything You Want – Just Like That!”

An excellent book which can and will help you change your life for the better.  The emphasis of the exercises and guidance in the book is all about your ‘self ‘ –  How you see yourself, what pre-determined ideas and beliefs you have and how others react to your behaviour and attitude.

The author takes you through a journey and explains why and how your thoughts and behaviour have been formed.  Once you recognize these traits, the author then challenges them and stresses by taking small steps these traits will start to change which will lead to bigger changes to enhance your life.

The challenges and demands which we face in our lives are cleverly broken down into chapters and for each demand/challenge the author gives you an alternative thought process to help you cope.  With practice this could lead to that demand/challenge becoming less of an impact on your life and therefore eliminating that problem and as each problem is eradicated your life is enriched.

Reading this book I found myself challenging myself and through this I did feel better and gained confidence.  I am sure if I keep going back to the book and using the tools and exercises that I can improve my outlook on life which is what I deserve.

This is a book which is once read must be kept close to hand for reference in case those nagging doubts come back because once re-read I am sure that will be the final end to that problem.  An inspiring and easy to read book.

“How To Get Anything You Want – Just Like That!” is a book by Janet Poole.  At its core, the book is a self help and positive thinking book.  Each chapter begins with a quote related to that chapter.  Then you have some thought provoking words placed in front of you.  Each chapter ends with a summary of what you just learned as well as at least one exercise to help yourself achieve the message the chapter is putting forward.  Some chapters even have some “real world” situations between couples or just with a person to help and make the topic really hit home.

In order to get what you want – you must first be happy with yourself.  If you’re not happy, then no one around you will be happy. You will project your unhappiness upon others and no one will want to help you meet your goals and achieve your dreams.  Once you are in the right mindset and truly are yourself – you can then be free to be you and you will have a purpose.

This book is definitely very motivating and I bookmarked a couple of the exercises for me to try over the next few days, weeks and months to start feeling better about myself and gaining the confidence I need in order to get what I want!  (Interestingly enough, before I started the book I was at work and didn’t really want to do what I was working on.  I went to see another coworker about it and was told that I was being moved to some different duties – ones that would be much easier for me – something that I actually WANT to do.  Apparently just looking at this book had it start working for me!)”

Review of “How to Get Anything You Want – Just Like That!”

I don’t know anyone who doesn’t want to know that little gem of info. We’re all searching for something, right? Needless to say, I thought I would really like this book. My background is in the helping professions and I assumed that I would find Janet Poole’s book useful and relatable. If I’m being honest, there are several excellent points in it. There were multiple times when I was scribbling in my notebook thinking, “Oh, that’s good!” or “Yes. That is absolutely important to remember.” The flip side of the coin, though is one that is not so relatable for me. For instance, the very first sentence starts off, “Did you know that you are entitled to have anything you want?” Perhaps this set the tone for the rest of the book for me since I completely disagree with everything about that sentence.

There were other things about this way of thinking that irked me, too. The author describes that each of us are gods (p. 7), a belief that is fundamentally against what I, as a Christian, believe. Poole discusses past lives and freely dishes out lots of feel good advice and tools toward getting what one wants out of the present life.

What did I like about the book? It’s food for thought. No matter what you believe, it’s important to know why you believe that. It’s important to step outside of your box and expand your mind. One of my favorite quotes says:

“It is the mark of an educated mind to be able to entertain a thought without accepting it.” – Aristotle

With that being said, the book also contains several key concepts that I wholeheartedly believe to be true. There’s an emphasis on making changes in thinking in order to create change in life. This is absolutely something that I’ve found to be true in my life and in the lives of people I’ve worked with in a counseling setting. There’s also an emphasis on loving and valuing the self which is important for self growth, in my opinion.

In addition to these pearls of wisdom, there are also summaries and exercises to accompany each chapter.”

Review of “How to Get Anything You Want – Just Like That!”

Self-help ancient wisdom in today’s language sounds very convincing, at least, the way Janet Poole portrays it. Here is a fresh angle on familiar motivational material that will spur you to turn your dreams into reality. You alone are responsible for your life and should not lay any blame on others if something goes wrong. Self-pity, is fleeting, and the result of avoiding responsibility.

Janet places the onus on you to make the decisions and choose what’s good for you.

After more than 20 years of researching life “determined to get to the core of what makes everyone’s life so different, so individual”, Janet emphasises that everyone is entitled to have anything they want.

“Every human being, including you, is precious, remarkable and worthy of having anything they want. Everything you have in your life comes from your thoughts, so another way of looking at it is that right now you are getting what you are thinking.”

While the focus of such books hardly varies, the divergence comes through the composition and perspective from which the information is presented. To that end Just Like That! avoids the use of   jargon and clichés and is written in an appealing,   practical tone.

One clever feature is the way in which the pages are broken up with beneficial quotes to lighten the subject matter and create a brighter level of interest. Instead of presenting text that resemble instructions, Janet breaks up the monotony by providing case studies in ‘comic sans-like’ font to illustrate her points.

She not only summarises learning tips and exercises at the end of each chapter, but she applies quantum physics to explain and support some of the concepts she discusses.

It walks a familiar self-help route covering topics such as learning to love one’s self, positive affirmations, forgiveness and provides an in-depth, practical, street-smart formula to get what you want.”

Review of “How to Get Anything You Want – Just Like That!”

Janet Poole has had a wonderfully adventurous life but like most people, she has had her share of challenges at times. Her thinking is that it is the difficult times in life that give us the greatest learning and growth. Her love of people and her studies on our behavior have given her great insight into the inner workings of life. Her simple theory? We create what we think.

While Janet has followed alternate paths in her quest to understand life, including quantum physics, neuroplasticity, the link between brain-body-emotions, NLP Practitioner (Neuro-Linguistic Programming), Taoism, Masters of the Far East, Eckankar, nutrition and so on, this single key has become the catechism upon which she bases her life.

For this review I read her book, “Just Like That!”. While in the “self help” genre, I felt it touched upon many aspects of life, and didn’t try to preach to me or to provide me with a strict regimen of instruction for bettering myself. It makes you think about self-awareness and I really loved the inspirational quotes that were at the beginning of each chapter.  The book is easy to read, hard to put down at times, in fact. Janet is a believer in loving who you are and not trying to squeeze yourself into a box or change yourself to fit someone else’s mold or idea. If you can love yourself as you are, the rest will follow.  The book is perfect not just for one type of person either, no matter who you are, where you are in life, there is something for everyone and each person will take something important away after reading it.

“The biggest blessing you can give someone is to accept them for who they are. Start by accepting yourself, and go with what resonates for you.” -Janet Poole

Would you like to live an extraordinary life and in doing so lead others to do the same? This book seeks to explain to readers the one key to having an extraordinary life and after acquiring this key, readers will not only be able to help themselves, but help others as well. I find it important to note that Janet Poole talks a great deal about  breaking away from conventional thinking. She offers ancient wisdom with a modern twist to reveal the power within and uses simple scientific explanations to show readers why they can get what they want, why they are entitled to do so and how doing so helps others.

Review of “How to Get Anything You Want – Just Like That!”

I recently had the opportunity to read this book by Janet Poole. It’s basically a self-help motivational book. I love that this book tells you that you embrace yourself instead of changing yourself to fit within the world’s idea of how you should be. To be your own person and to love yourself.

This book relates to both personal and business goals, from loving yourself to creating your dream career to having children. With a few inspirational quotes, “How to Get Anything You Want – Just Like That!”  is filled with pure wisdom. Just about anyone can benefit from it’s life lessons. This book has made me see myself in a different way to be honest. I recommend it to anyone that reads self-help books. This book has helped me realize what I want to try to do with my life.
