Learn Something New – Because When You Stop Learning You Get Stuck in a Rut

When someone stops learning, their ideas become old and they start rejecting anything new. Their life starts to deteriorate and they start to live in fear.

They lose confidence.

If you try teaching them a new concept, it’s possible they’ll attack you.

They feel threatened by ‘the new’. They are comfortable in their stagnation; they are even comfortable if miserable.

The familiar is preferable and safe to them.

To get out of a rut and stop stagnation you require determination and it‘s vital that you remove boredom, frustration and hopelessness from your life.

How do you do that?

Easily: do something different.

And your first step is self-improvement. Learn something new for you. It can be anything new to you, but note you’re not after new clothes, a new car or house.

They probably got you into the rut.

Choose something that builds confidence, a new skill that interests you etc.

To help you decide what you want, my book How to Get Anything You Want – Just Like That gives you all you need to find new things that interest you, and to build confidence and easily get out of that rut.

How do You Know if You are Living in the Past?

If you live in the past, you don’t get what you want.

When you are consciously present in the moment you get what you want.

So, if you want to leave behind living in the past… read on to discover how.

To help you get what you want, this is Part 3 of a 4-Part series – Why Being in the Moment Gets You What You Want.

In Parts 1 and 2 you learned the 10 Magic Reasons Living in the Moment Gets You What You Want and The 5 Hazards of Obsessing About the Past.

Question: How do you know if you are living in the moment, in ‘the now’?

Answer: If you are aware of your thoughts and emotions, then you are present and in the moment.

“We don’t see things as they are, we see them as we are.”

Anaïs Nin (1903 – 1977, French-Cuban author)

Listed below are 27 everyday situations, clues to help you recognize when you are living in the past. Along with each clue is what you’d do if you were instead ‘being present’.

By the way, you’ll notice that living in the past is largely driven by unhelpful emotion whereas emotion disappears in the present… you are calm.

27 Everyday Clues: You are Living in the Past When:

  1. You react to circumstances without thinking; you impulsively judge a situation as good or bad. For example, you receive an email and instantly judge the contents as one way or the other. Being present: You acknowledge that you don’t yet fully understand the bigger picture – you allow whatever it is to be part of a greater outcome for you.
  2. You judge differences as good or bad. You may have a preference and go for what you want, but if something is not ideal or good for you, it isn’t therefore ‘bad’. Being present: You allow situations or options to just ‘be’ neither. You have no reaction.
  3. You speak without thinking, without awareness. Do you ever say, ‘I am sick of…’, ‘I’d die for a…’? Being present: You’re aware of what you’re saying – you say only that which you truly want.
  4. You expect something bad to happen, ‘because it always does’. Being present: You know that you create only the best for you – getting what you want becomes a habit, a healthy habit.
  5. You don’t want to change i.e. you avoid new ideas, you won’t accept responsibility for your circumstances, you refuse to see yourself in others, you want life to stay the same, you want people to feel sorry for you. Being present: You’re flexible, willing to learn and invite change – you see change as an opportunity for adventure and greater happiness. 6. You can’t let go of controlling a circumstance and its outcome. Being present: You create what you want and allow it to unfold in the most ideal way, uniquely for you.
  7. You can’t accept someone for who they are. Do you constantly try to change people e.g. your partner, child, friend? Being present: You allow others to be who they are and instead look only to changing yourself to satisfy the lack you notice in them. By doing this you give others the gift of acceptance and yourself an opportunity to grow. How to do this is in my book “How to Get Anything You Want – Just Like That!”
  8. You control others, their life. Being present: You’re at peace with how others choose to live their lives and how they choose to behave. You receive the same gift from others.
  9. You can’t let someone go e.g. a friendship, partner. Being present: You calmly know that as one person leaves your life you’re inviting someone else in – someone more suited to who you have become and who will help you grow in different ways. 10 Magic Reasons Living in the Moment Gets You What You Want

Live in the moment and get what you want.

Easier said than done of course, but an ideal I aspire to each and every day!

Living in the moment comes down to being awake and aware of what you are thinking in the moment versus being asleep or in a trance, as many of us are.

If you are asleep you are effectively under hypnosis – you are reacting with old emotions and blindly following the masses.

To help you get what you want, this is Part 1 of a 4-Part series – Why Being in the Moment Gets You What You Want

This moment ‘now’ is brand new, pure and unpolluted. Be aware of your thoughts, emotions and use the power of  ‘the now’ to create what you want.

“Life is a succession of moments. To live each one is to succeed.”

Corita Kent (1918 – 1986, artist and educator)

10 Magic Reasons Being in the Moment Gets You What You Want

  1. You’ll use the moment wisely with precision and intention to get what you want. Only awareness can do that. If you want life to be different in the future, then the time to act consciously is NOW. So, how do you know if you are in the moment? It’s simple – if you are aware of your thoughts and emotions, then you are present and in the moment. Create what you want now and you’ll naturally move into a future of what you want.
  2. You live in a constant state of joy when you’re in the moment. This is because in the ‘now’ your old emotions, dislikes and problems cease to exist – they can’t exist. These hamper your dreams and removing them paves the way for what you want.
  3. You think for yourself. You decide what is good for you in the ‘now’. You won’t blindly do what others do, you won’t do what they think is good for you or feel that you must impress others – not family, friends or colleagues.  Whatever you do when you are ‘now’, you do it for you. If you need help accepting this then read 5 Reasons You’re Not Asking For What You Want.
  4. You are not afraid. Nothing can hurt you in the moment, there is no fear; you are calm. You take responsibility for your life, you don’t need approval from anyone; you live your personal truth. Continue reading “10 Magic Reasons Living in the Moment Gets You What You Want”

10 Quick Ways to Manage Your Time and Achieve More

SailingTime is an illusion, you’ve heard that before and it’s true. How would you like to walk in the door tonight beaming from ear to ear? Triumphant, happy, calm, no stress. How you manage your time can make you feel either:

  • free and inspired to do and get what you want

or

  • trapped, overwhelmed and frustrated i.e. not get what you want

10 Quick Ways to Manage Your Time

  1. Do first those tasks that seem hard for you. They’re the ones that are boring or fill you with dread. They may not be vital, but require attention and once they’re off the list a sense of peace and relief washes over you. They may even be quick to do, but for whatever reason they challenge you. Take control and do them, cross them off the list and enjoy your new sense of freedom.
  2. Do first that which truly moves you forward. The more you focus on tasks that truly move you forward, the more time it’ll seem you’ve had. Wisely use your moments of the day.
  3. Be completely present with each task i.e. Be aware of rushing the task, creating distractions, wishing the task over or that it is time to eat/drink/party. Be passionate about everything you do. When immersed in the now you go beyond time and the task is completed in ‘no time’. Aid your passion by doing work you love.
  4. Last thing before leaving your workstation in the evening, while the day is fresh in your mind, write a few notes about the following:
    • What you were doing when you stopped work today
    • What stage you were up to and where you will start from
    • Other tasks you need to do tomorrow

In the morning, merely look at your list and hit the ground running. You’ll be more effective and enjoy greater awareness straight off. Continue reading “10 Quick Ways to Manage Your Time and Achieve More”

2 Stumbling Blocks to Getting What You Want

1.     You don’t think it’s you who makes it happen; you believe in luck or fate

2.     You don’t think you’re entitled to get what you want

Move passed that way of thinking. Most of us have been programmed to think it’s ‘selfish’ to get what we want. Getting what we want forms images of someone’s spoilt brat jumping up and down at the supermarket saying, ‘I want it, I want it’, crying hysterically when the answer is, ‘No.’

Your Unique Dreams

But this is not about a childish need to always get what you want. This is about achieving your unique individual dreams – to even know what your dreams are, and to wake up each day assured of a great day ahead.

Do You Feel Entitled to Get What You Want?

Try this: Say to yourself, ‘I always get what I want.’

Now check your reaction. Was it easy to say, or are you squirming? Continue reading “Discover the First Key Element to Getting What You Want”
