Are You Living the Life You TRULY Want?

Have you ever wondered why so many people settle for a life they don’t want?

“It’s unrealistic” is one of the main reasons I’ve discovered people are not willing to even consider the life they TRULY want.

Unfortunately, such beliefs are so powerful they cause us to miss out on the greater life we could have had.

Fortunately, if you sincerely analyse this belief, it falls to pieces.

“I am realistic. I expect miracles.” ~~ Dr Wayne Dyer

Consider Will Smith’s healthy attitude to life. He goes beyond traditional thinking and therefore goes for and achieves big dreams. Here are excerpts from his inspiring interviews.

Why Your Dissatisfaction with Life is Healthy

Were you ever told to be satisfied with life?
Happy with life? Absolutely. Satisfied? No.

You see, from the moment you were born you’ve been going after goals. First you wanted to crawl, then stand, then walk, then talk.

As a baby, a very natural part of you always strived for that next level of accomplishment and how great you felt each time you achieved it. How happy those around you were too.

So why do we stop striving to better ourselves?
Is it any wonder life feels so meaningless and empty?

The reason you’re born to be dissatisfied is because you’re born to be a goal achiever, always onward and upward.

Don’t fight it; embrace it.

It’s in your nature to explore and experience life, to stretch, to grow.

The path to exploring, stretching and growing is to go after something you truly want.

“If you plan on being anything less than you are capable of being,
you will probably be unhappy all the days of your life.”
~~ Abraham Maslow

When we’ve stretching and giving our best, we’re at our happiest.
When we’re suppressing ourselves and living a mediocre life, we’re miserable.

To be “satisfied” with life at any time is to have missed the point completely.

Why Mainstream Thinking Gives You Mainstream Results

“Time to Think Outside the Box”

Avoid mainstream thinking.

That is, if you want a happy life and to get what you want.

Rise above it.

“The individual has always had to struggle to keep from being overwhelmed by the tribe.

If you try it, you will be lonely often, and sometimes frightened.

But no price is too high to pay for the privilege of owning yourself.”

Friedrich Nietzsche (German philosopher, poet, composer 1844 – 1900)

It’s  Time to Think for Ourselves

Many people believe the masses are correct i.e. mainstream thinking. “If everyone is doing it, it must be okay.” Wrong. Mainstream thought is filled with potholes. It is mostly the media, the government and our friends who tell us what to think. We no longer think for ourselves and that should trouble us.  Does this mean many people have become robotic? Do you hang out with the latest topic of the media? It’s likely all our beliefs are being manipulated. What about you? What do you think?

“The man who reads nothing at all is better educated

than the man who reads nothing but newspapers.”

~~ Thomas Jefferson (Third US President and principal author of US Declaration of Independence 1743 – 1826)

I saw a well-written article a year ago about mainstream thinking on the site www.dailyreckoning.com and thought it explained the concept well. A site intended for investors, but the article applies to life in general. Although the article is a year old, it still applies today. In fact unfortunately for us, this article applies to the last several hundred years and will continue to unless we change. Here is an excerpt.

Successful Investing in a Market Dominated by Groupthink

By Eric Fry

09/09/10 Laguna Beach, California – Mainstream thinking tends to produce mainstream results. The outliers of human behavior and consequence – for better or for worse – tend to reside outside of the mainstream…out on the thin tails of the probability curve.

Out on those distant tails, you might find the creative genius of a Bill Gates or a Thomas Edison…or of that Chinese guy who invented gunpowder. On the other side of the curve, you might find the incomprehensible perspective of a Pol Pot or a Hernando Cortes…or of that woman who underwent 31 operations over 14 years so that she could look like “Barbie.”

Then, occasionally, you find those individuals like Vincent van Gogh who were so idiosyncratic that you can’t really say which thin tail they would occupy.

But, by definition, most of us live our lives where most of us live our lives – i.e., somewhere near the mainstream. That’s mostly a good thing. It is safe, comfortable, and conducive to a lengthy and well socialized existence. Out on the Serengeti, for example, the “outliers” usually become lunch…or if they’re lucky, dinner, a little later in the day.

But mainstream thinking and mainstream behavior also possesses a very dark side. It lacks insight. It shuns self-examination. It repels intellectual honesty and creativity. Mainstream thinking, therefore, can sometimes nurture more detritus than a petri dish; more dysfunction than a sanitarium. In Ages past, mainstream thinking has nurtured idiocies as innocuous as the periwig or as horrific as the virgin sacrifice.”

It requires courage to think for yourself; to be an independent thinker. But it delivers the richest rewards. Deep down most people are concerned about encountering disapproval from those around them, becoming ‘lunch’ on the Serengeti for the mainstream thinkers; people who tow the line.

A Simple Way to Get Even More Than You Want

“Miracles happen everyday, change your perception of what a miracle is and you’ll see them all around you.

Jon Bon Jovi

When you decide you really want something, it seems impossible to let go of the idea. Yet loosening up and doing exactly that can fast track you to not only what you want, but to getting even more.

An Addiction to Control Blocks the Wonderful

In “Just Like That!” I’ve devoted a few chapters to why ‘letting go’ gets you what you want. This is because while there may be times we should put in all our efforts to get what we want, there are also times to let go and allow. Most of us are addicted to control – of other people as well as ourselves – so we find it a challenge to let go. Control issues usually exist in several areas of our lives and they block the wonderful. Yet most of the time we don’t even know we’re doing it, hence the chapters in my book.

Two Bits of Wonderful By Letting Go

A few weeks ago, I found myself letting go without realizing it and created a little bit of wonderful in doing so. A small situation, but nevertheless that’s how we start. We gain confidence doing it which leads us to greater ‘miracles’. It all counts.

It was only afterward I realized I’d let go twice in the one situation, and of course felt rewarded. Rewarded not only in letting go without thinking, but also in the bit of wonderful received. You can have these great little buzzes too, so here’s my living example to let you know the good news: that ‘letting go’ does pay off.

A Living Example: Letting Go Works

I love books, all bookstores and I also love second-hand bookstores.

My partner and I were passing through a small country town west of Sydney and spotted a second-hand bookstore. As always of course, in we went.

Do You Establish the Price Before Paying?

Firstly, I stopped at the stand of books out front. I saw two large hardcover autobiographies – one by Bob Hope, the other George Burns.

I actively seek out comedy and knew these two men would supply exactly that. I also appreciate true stories. Then as most of us do I looked for prices, but found none. I held onto the books anyway, intending to buy them after browsing. In the back of my mind lingered the vague thought to first find out the books’ prices, but didn’t act on it. I went on inside.

The Quest for Inspirational Novels

Inside were plenty of second-hand novels, including some family sagas by Penny Vincenzi, which I thought my daughter may one day enjoy. She’s an avid reader as are both my children. I’m a little sceptical of some well-known women novelists as the stories often involve a female character falling desperately in love with a man and ultimately getting caught up in cheating, revenge, corruption all rather dark thoughts. You get the picture. Not a theme I’d like my daughter spending time on. Penny Vincenzi, though still family drama, tends to write captivating historical novels involving courageous women. I could be wrong, but it appears that way. Even so, it’s not that important and I digress.

A Trilogy, But Only Two Books… Hmmm, What to Do

Soon after entering the store, I picked up the second and third books of a trilogy by Ms Vincenzi. I figured a trilogy a nice idea, but couldn’t find the first book; for some reason it didn’t concern me. I held onto the two I found and continued looking at other parts of the store for my favorite genres – non-fiction and autobiographies.

After gathering a few more books, I went to the front to pay, still without the price of the two books from out front and still missing the first book of that trilogy.

Do you want to have fun, confidence and purpose in your life?

People do stagnate.

The question is:

Would you even know if it’s happened to you?

Sometimes we’re asleep and in a rut and don’t even know it.

How to Tell if You’re Stuck in a Rut

Being stuck in a rut means something different to everyone.

Your clue is how you’re feeling about life.

If your life is inspirational and you’re feeling confident and enthusiastic, you’re fine.

And if you do feel that way and yet you’re still reading this article, that’s brilliant.

Why?

Because life can always be even more amazing than it is now – and a part of you knows that.

Why not have it all?

Your potentials are infinite and it’s by continuing to open new avenues in your life that life stays thrilling.

“The only difference between a rut and a grave is how deep it is.”

~~ Charles Garfield

You’re stuck in a rut if you are experiencing boredom, hopelessness, anxiety, frustration or all of them.

You ought to act now and change your life otherwise you’ll become depressed or even create dis-eases in your body.

Read on to find out how to change your life, give your life purpose and even more ‘zing’.

Learn Something New – Because When You Stop Learning You Get Stuck in a Rut

When someone stops learning, their ideas become old and they start rejecting anything new. Their life starts to deteriorate and they start to live in fear.

They lose confidence.

If you try teaching them a new concept, it’s possible they’ll attack you.

They feel threatened by ‘the new’. They are comfortable in their stagnation; they are even comfortable if miserable.

The familiar is preferable and safe to them.

To get out of a rut and stop stagnation you require determination and it‘s vital that you remove boredom, frustration and hopelessness from your life.

How do you do that?

Easily: do something different.

And your first step is self-improvement. Learn something new for you. It can be anything new to you, but note you’re not after new clothes, a new car or house.

They probably got you into the rut.

Choose something that builds confidence, a new skill that interests you etc.

To help you decide what you want, my book How to Get Anything You Want – Just Like That gives you all you need to find new things that interest you, and to build confidence and easily get out of that rut.
